A lot of people like to think that the betting NFL preseason doesn’t mean much. They may add that it’s simply a warm up for the real season, a chance for players to get in shape, QBs and receivers to build a rapport and a chance for the coaches to make the final roster cuts. And that’s all true. But the importance of the third game of the preseason cannot be overstated and for 2-3 quarters this is a virtual regular season game.

More important, its chance for sports betting fans, coaches and players to get a glimpse of a team’s potential.

Come Sunday night when the Denver Broncos host the Pittsburgh Steelers hometown fans may not like what they see when their Broncos take the field.

Last year the Broncos started the NFL betting lines action as the hottest team in football winning their first 5 games and beating some very good teams in the process. But then the football clock struck 12 and this team turned back into a pumpkin. Rookie head coach Josh McDaniels did an admirable job but the fact was the team just wasn’t that talented and finished the regular season action 8-8 in one of the easiest divisions in the NFL.

2010 could be a struggle for this Denver squad as this team, but most accounts, has gotten worse in the offseason. Most noticeably, the team traded away its best player (WR Brandon Marshall). Without this Pro Bowl receiver QB Kyle Orton, a player of limited talent, should struggle mightily in the passing game. He’ll have to rely on rag-tag receiving corps and a rookie WR to try and move the ball downfield.

Against the Steelers this passing game will be put to the test in a very extreme way as Dick LeBeau should unleash the hounds against Orton and bring every conceivable blitz scheme at the QB as often as possible. With S Troy Palomalu healthy once again Orton will be running for his life as the wild-haired safety gives the Steelers a blitzing dimension the team sorely lacked last season.

While there is no substitute for regular season action, this game will be as close as it gets for both teams and Broncos offense is likely to find that it’s just not very good this year.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:05 Eastern Time and sbg global sportsbook opened with the Steelers as a 1-point favorite with an over/under total at 36.

The Houston Texans have had an up and down existence since this expansion team opened for NFL betting business more than a decade ago. But there’s been a lot more downs that ups and this team is still looking for its first NFL playoff bid. The Texans just missed the cut last year after jumping out to a terrific start and fading at the end to finish 9-7.

However, 2010 looks to be the year that the Texans finally make their debut in the football betting playoff action.

Led by QB Matt Schaub (the NFL’s leading passer in ’09 with 4,770 yards) this team is always a broken tackle away from a TD and it can go toe to toe with any defense in the league. WR Andre Johnson is the real deal and it’s no coincidence that Schaub led the league in passing yards and Johnson led the NFL betting action in receiving yards (1,569). Johnson also had 9 TDs and 101 catches making him arguably the best WR in the game.

The problem for this team, as you probably guessed is a broken running game, a leaky defense and an annual late season collapse that has left this team just short of the football odds postseason two years in a row.

But starting RB Steve Slaton was injured last season and should be fully recovered this season. In addition second year runner Jeremiah Johnson, if he has good training camp, should be able to make a big impact on the running game as well. Defense remains the big question mark for this club it drafted a top CB in Kareem Jackson who should be a starter and picked up over a half dozen rookies on this side of the ball, some expected to contribute immediately.

But even with an average defense this is still the best passing team in the NFL betting action and averaged 383 yards and 24.3 ppg last season. The AFC South seems awfully thin in terms of competition this year as well and if the team can at least split with the Colts this team will have a terrific shot at the competing for the division title and at the very least an AFC wildcard spot.

The game for tonight in the 2nd week of the 2010 Preseason match-up for this Thursday night August 19, 2010 at 8 PM EDT and coming to you on National Television with FOX from Atlanta. Both of these teams are 1-0 on the season as we remember that winning for them is not the important factor coming from these preseason games as it is the opportunity to see who’s who at the zoo and what potential the full slate of players on each team has to offer both on offense and defense.

See the NFL Odds on this game from Atlanta tonight in the Georgia Dome. On the other side of the sheet is the fact that both reams had a decent week one in this 2010 preseason and want to perform even better tonight. If you are interested in betting on this game go to sbg global.com sportsbook and log in to your account and be a part of the NFL Betting action at SBG you can get up to a 60% bonus on your first deposit.

This second game for both teams has each team putting their efforts in improving their defensive side of the game. The Patriots are especially interested in the since their shootout with the saints in the 1st game which brought up some questions about the defense. For the Falcons they are also not sure about the defensive abilities as they did not feel the game with the Chiefs provided them with the challenges they needed to face.

For the Patriots to win this game they need to the defensive line to stop the running game of Atlanta which game be very aggressive and opens up the passing game for Ryan of Atlanta. If the Patriots are able to control the running game of the Falcons then the rest of their game plan is predictable and the Patriot then will have a good chance to win this game. Check out the NFL Betting lines on this NFL came for tonight.

The Falcons are very aware that they need a big pass rush from the defense front seven tonight if they want to win this 2nd preseason game. They have to create a system to harass and go after the Patriots QB and especially one of Brady’s statures as in the regular season they will face a very similar situation in the 2 games they have with the Saints and Drew Brees another top rated QB.

For tonight’s game the Odds makers at SBGGlobal have set the lines on this preseason game favoring the Falcons at -2 ½ (-110) and the Patriots +2 ½ (-110) with the Money Line at OV/UN 37 (-110) and for the Money Line the Falcons are (-140) while the Patriots are +120.
NFL betting lines handicappers will have an outstanding matchup of potential playoff teams in the sports betting matchup between Carolina and Baltimore.

NFL betting lines handicappers will have an outstanding matchup of potential playoff teams in the sports betting matchup between Carolina and Baltimore.

The Carolina Panthers were the top seed in the NFC playoffs in 2008 and are looking to get back into the post season after an 8-8 straight up record last year while going 9-7 against the spread. Carolina went under the total in 10 games.

The Baltimore Ravens are among the preseason favorites to make the Super Bowl in February. Head Coach John Harbaugh has led them to the playoffs in his first two seasons on the job. Last year Baltimore went 9-7 straight up and 8-7-1 against the spread with just 6 games going over the total. The Ravens destroyed the Patriots in a playoff game at New England but were eliminated at Indianapolis by the eventual AFC champion Colts the following week.

SBG Global Sportsbook opened with Baltimore as a 3-point favorite and with a total of 34. This game can be seen on ESPN and kicks off at 8:05 Eastern Time.

The Ravens look to be a well balanced team that could go deep into the playoffs. Long known as a strong defensive team, the Ravens were again among the best in the NFL last year as they ranked 3rd overall for total defense and 3rd for points allowed.

Baltimore’s offense slipped a little last year in quarterback Joe Flacco’s sophomore season but much of that can be attributed to injuries. The Ravens finished just 13th overall for offensive yardage and an even worse 18th in passing. Baltimore was a solid running team that finished 5th in the NFL for yards on the ground. Flacco is expected to have better productivity this year as the Ravens are more healthy and have added weapons to the receiving corps with Anquan Boldin and Donte’ Stallworth.

One of the most interesting story lines and handicapping angles of the preseason with the Ravens will be the battle to backup Flacco as Marc Bulger, Troy Smith, and John Beck will each get a shot and plenty of reps in exhibition games.

Harbaugh and company are excited about this year and are ready to go.

“You can’t help but to be excited to come into training camp,” said the Baltimore coach. “We’ve probably addressed some personnel situations that have not been able to win some games for us in critical situations in the playoffs. I think we’ve done that.”

No fans in any professional sports betting league have suffered the way that the Detroit Lion fans have suffered over the past several decades during the NFL betting action.

This is a club that seems to set the bar even lower for NFL betting futility, year after year. It has been 11 years since this team has made the NFL playoff betting competition and 18 years since it’s won the NFC Central title. And in case you’re interested, this team has never won the Super Bowl, never even been to one for that matter.

Since the retirement of the great Barry Sanders from the NFL odds competition, this team has gone nowhere in a hurry. Former GM Matt Millen defied all odds by selecting WR after WR with the team’s first pick in the NFL betting draft almost every year and singlehandedly did more to destroy an NFL franchise than any man in the history of the NFL odds competition.

But the new front office regime and new coach Jim Schwartz has quickly been undoing the mistakes of the past and after just two seasons at the helm of this pathetic NFL betting franchise the Lions just might be on the verge of their first winning season in the NFL odds competition in a decade.

Last year the Lions drafted a rookie QB number one over all in the NFL betting draft and so far so good. Matthew Stafford had his ups and downs in his first season as in the NFL odds competition and his career QB rating of 61.0 is not impressive, but he should be much better this year and with a bit of help on the offense he shouldn’t have to gamble so much with this throws. Rookie RB Jahvid Best should instantly energize this offense as both a runner and a pass catcher and help improve Stafford’s awful NFL betting stats.

But the biggest addition to this team is the team’s number one pick in the 2010 NFL betting draft; Ndamukong Suh is the one of the most impressive draft prospects in the past decade and should be an All Pro player in the NFL betting action for a decade. He’ll anchor the team’s 3-4 defenses and put this unit instantly into the top half of defenses in the NFL odds action.

The biggest NFL betting story heading into the NFL draft wasn’t even about which players were going to be selected first in the process this year. Instead, the fallout created by Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger bled over into the NFL draft action and threatened to overshadow the entire process.

After being under investigation for sexual assault, for the second time in two years, Big Ben’s off field antics took center stage in the run up to the biggest off season event for NFL gambling fans. Rumors were rampant that the Steelers would trade the troubled, but talented franchise QB on or before the NFL draft.

That kind of deal had the potential to shake up the entire NFL betting scene and so it’s little wonder why the sports betting universe was more interested in Big Ben then the NFL draft.

But as most NFL gambling experts and Steelers fans expected, Big Ben will wasn’t traded and more likely than not the Steelers were using the trade rumors as an opportunity to see what cards it’s NFL betting competitors were holding.

At the end of the day the Steelers even managed to salvage a pretty decent draft after the dust settled the football betting discussions drifted from the Roethlisberger scandal back to the NFL draft picks. In the first round of the draft, the Steelers fooled no one by taking C/G Maurkice Pouncey out the University of Florida. Pouncey has been a college football betting standout for years in the rough and tumble SEC and is a perfect fit for the Steelers. Many NFL gambling experts had Pouncey pegged as one of the surest things in the draft and he should start immediately when the NFL betting season gets under way.

In the second round the Steelers selected the lesser-known Jason Worlids from Virginia Tech. This guy flew under the radar a bit at the college football betting level but had NFL betting scouts drooling in the run up the NFL draft. An OLB, Worlids has one of the quickest first steps off the edge and in a Blitzberg defense he should emerge in a year or two as the best pass rusher in the 2010 NFL draft.
However, after some disappointments in the during the college wagering competition, a poor showing at the senior bowl and some serious questions raised at the NFL draft combine, some NFL gambling fans are beginning to question just how good the 2010 Safety class really is.

There are plenty of marquee players at the safety position and some of them are all but certain to go on to have a major impact in the NFL gambling but this class is nowhere near as invincible as it used to be and predictions from NFL betting experts as to where these players will go in the NFL draft are all over the board.

For more details about NFL Betting Lines please go to SBG Global.com

Take for example USC safety Taylor Mayes, long the poster child of this class among football betting fans. Some mock NFL draft boards have him going as high as the top ten; others have him dropping as far as the third round of the NFL draft. Many NFL gambling experts were horrified by Mayes inability to cover top quality receivers at the Senior Bowl and the lack of his lateral movement skills. Yet, football wagering needs only watch the tape from his outstanding college football betting career to know that this guy can play.

Other prospects like Tennessee’s Eric Berry are all but guaranteed to go in the top 5 or ten picks of the NFL draft and will almost certainly go on to be stars in the NFL betting action. But the interesting thing about this safety class is that for most of the top prospects NFL betting opinions vary widely.

With importance of the safety position only continuing to rise as teams in the NFL betting action convert to 3-4 defenses and incorporate zone blitzes, many teams will looking to upgrade at this spot in the 2010 NFL draft. It will be interesting to see which players shine on draft day and which shine in the NFL betting competition once the season starts.

It wasn’t that long ago that Colt McCoy was the highest rated passer in the 2010 NFL draft class. In fact, just a year ago he was the toast of the college football betting scene and looked as if he would be the #1 pick overall when he finally left the college football betting lines for the NFL betting lines action.

But injuries and somewhat disappointing play have caused his NFL draft stock to plummet and now many NFL draft boards even have him falling behind option QB Time Tebow on the QB depth chart. No offense to Tebow, who has worked tirelessly to prove he can throw against NFL betting-caliber defenses and improved his stock, but McCoy is prototype NFL gambling QB who led one of college football’s top programs with great success. So why is he be projected as a third-round pick by many NFL betting lines authorities?

For more details about NFL Betting Lines please go to SBG Global.com

The biggest knock on McCoy is that he doesn’t go through his progressions very well and that he needs to look for the second and third options when his primary receiver is covered, but isn’t that problem for every QB entering the NFL Draft coming out of college football betting competition?

The truth is, there isn’t really any good reason why he he’s seen his NFL betting stock drop so quickly. Accuracy is one of the prized attributes for NFL wagering scouts and McCoy has that in spades as he set the college football betting record of pass completion % last season.

Arm strength is a bit of a concern for some NFL betting franchises, but accuracy and a quick release can overcome that flaw. Also, NFL betting scouts points to McCoy’s lack of production in his senior year of college football betting competition, but he also had much less talent to work with at the skill position and at times had to force throws that led INTs.

McCoy is still likely one of the top three QBs in this NFL draft and could be a very nice acquisition for team especially if he falls to the third round or lower.

In the past, many NFL betting fans find themselves starved for top NFL receiver talent but they should be able to find plenty of help at that position in this year’s NFL draft. While the 2010 NFL draft class won’t be as rich in receiver talent as some recent classes, there should still be a handful of players that will make an immediate impact and improve their team’s chances in the NFL odds this fall or the next.

At the top of the WR class is former Oklahoma State Cowboy Dez Bryant who despite missing much of the college football betting season due to suspension put together such an impressive body of work through a half season of football betting that he’ll be the first WR taken in the 2010 NFL draft.

For more details about NFL Betting Lines please go to SBG Global.com

Bryant has prototypical size for a WR in the NFL gambling action (6’2” 225 lb) and is not only athletic but strong. He’s the type player that NFL betting scouts and QBs love as he’s great at fighting for ‘jump balls’ and has terrific hands. That Bryant will be the first WR taken in the NFL draft is all but written in stone and he should be able to have an impact his rookie NFL gambling season.

After Bryant it’s not quite clear who will be the second WR taken in the NFL draft but Golden Tate probably grades out as the second best receiver by most NFL betting experts. His size is a mark against him (5’9” 199 lbs) but his tape and his stats don’t lie. This kid made Jimmie Clausen look like Joe Montana at Notre Dame and will make some NFL wagering franchise very happy. His 4.42 speed at the NFL betting combine also likely sealed his spot in the mid-first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.

After these two WRs, the only player with a 1st round NFL draft skill set is arguably Georgia Tech’s DeMaryious Thomas and maybe, just maybe, USC’s Damian Williams.

If you’re an NFL franchise with two first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft the last thing you want to concern yourself with right now is some kind of scandal. Unless you’re the Oakland Raiders, one of the craziest franchises in sports betting. This is a franchise that has learned to cope with such interruptions.

But if you’re the San Francisco 49ers, winners of 5 Super Bowl betting titles and one of the elite franchises in NFL gambling than a front office scandal just a month before the NFL draft is not something that works in your favor.

For more details about NFL Betting Lines please go to SBG Global.com

No one is even quite sure what’s going on with this team right now but the facts that have been released to the NFL gambling public and pasted all across the online sports betting universe is that the Niners GM will no longer be with the team and will not be on board for the NFL draft.

Generally losing a GM is never a good thing just weeks before the NFL Draft but this year it’s a major blow for the 49ers as the team has 2 first round picks and views this year’s NFL draft as a major stepping stone and rebuilding point for the upcoming NFL betting season.

The team needs to address a handful of areas on the field but with the right picks, especially in the first round this team could very well become a contender in the sports betting action during the 2011 football betting season. Especially with the retirement of NFL betting legend Kurt Warner, a move that will leave the defending NFC West champs vulnerable.

The Niners could use help on the O-line if they’re going to finally capture an NFC West betting title and they can certainly get that with their first round NFL draft picks. But with the front office personnel department in turmoil it’s difficult to say whether the Niners will be in a position to make the best NFL draft picks they can and that distraction could very easily have a negative impact on the teams NFL draft success and the team’s success in the NFL odds action this fall.
