Bucs in the Midst of QB Turmoil

Carolina+Panthers+v+Tampa+Bay+Buccaneers+S4lA8LVt-Y-lHeading into the season the expectations for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL betting lines were low. But they’ve sunk even lower now that the team has switched QBs and found itself embroiled in ‘quarterback-gate’ just three weeks into the season.

Rookie coach Raheem Morris is desperate for his first win and you certainly can’t fault him for wanting this team to improve their standing in the NFL betting lines. But pulling Byron Leftwich out of the starting lineup isn’t exactly the best way of going about it.

Not only has he pulled Leftwich out of the starting lineup but according to NFL lines sources he’s been demoted to third string. There is little doubt that the Bucs have struggled on offense. And Leftwich’s 71.2 QB rating is hardly a thing of beauty. But how much of that is his fault and how much is the fault of a shaky O-line and one of the weakest receiving corps in the NFL lines?

Ideally, it would be great to upgrade at QB. However, Morris is benching the veteran in favor of Josh Johnson, a QB that most NFL betting odds fans probably have never even heard of. The one advantage that Johnson has over Leftwich is that he’s quicker on his feet and can quite literally run for his life. Something Leftwich couldn’t do.

The bottom line is the Bucs can’t get any worse (0-3) so a shake-up is the logical move. However, replacing bad with worse at the QB spot will hardly make this team better. And the wins are not likely to start flowing any time soon in Tampa.
