Lions Streak on the Line Against the Skins

Bears Lions FootballThe Detroit Lions are flirting with the destiny of the NFL betting lines –dubious destiny, that is- as they try and put the brakes on their losing and cap it before it reaches 20 games.  After compiling the first 0-16 season in football odds history the Lions have yet to get a win in the 2009 season.

Nonetheless, this Lions squad has a great shot at getting the monkey off its back at home this week as the team hosts the struggling Washington Redskins in the NFL betting lines.  The Skins are 1-1 after last week’s debacle against the hapless St Louis Rams.  No victory this year in the NFL lines has seemed more like a loss than the Skins 9-7 exercise in futility.

The Lions actually showed some signs of life in the first half of their loss against the Vikes last week but it was short lived.  Rookie QB Matt Stafford threw his first NFL TD, but there wasn’t much else to focus on for the offense.  On defense, the team also executed well against the run for two quarters before being shredded by Adrian Peterson and Brett Favre in the second half.

Its job will be much easier this week against the Skins offense helmed by an ineffective Jason Campbell, whose greatest asset is that he doesn’t turn the ball over.  It’s hard to believe that Washington’s offense is as bad as it’s looked so far this season and Detroit would be perfect opportunity for it to finally get on track.

The NFL betting odds favor the Skins (+6 1/2).  The poor Lions ‘can’t get any respect’ even at home.  Even though the law of probability would suggest that Detroit has win sooner or later, until they get some talent, it seems like it will be later.  Take the Skins.
