Meineke Bowl Preview: Pitt vs. Tar Heels – Betting Lines

You can’t help but think there might be more interesting betting lines if this were a basketball game between these two hoops powerhouses rather than a football bowl game. But both of these football programs are very good and getting better. And when the Panthers and the Tar Heels meet up if could be a very interesting game indeed.

The #19 Panthers are obviously the favorite in this match up having come within a whisker of winning a bid to a BCS college football bowl game. But after losing to Cincy in the closing seconds the team’s been relegated to the college football bowl wasteland.

North Carolina started out with a promising start to the season ranked in the teens in the college football betting lines ranking. But injuries and bad luck knocked the Butch Davis led team into the sea of mediocrity.

Davis is a former national champion as a coach at the University of Miami and a master strategist. Giving him a month to game plan for an opponent is a huge advantage for North Carolina and even though Pitt has the better talent and high octane offense you have tolike the Heels’ chances.

There is nothing flashy about Carolina’s team this sports betting season but with Davis at the helm they’ve been in most of their games this season.

Under coach Dave Wannstedt Pitt hasn’t had great results in bowl games and QB Bill Stull’s awful performance on the big stage against Cincy you can’t feel all that great about Pitt’s chances in the bowl game.

Look for Carolina to pull off a minor upset in a stadium that will be overwhelmingly pro Tar Heel.
