Monday Night Betting Odds: Packers vs Bears Predictions

September 27th, 2010 by

packers vs bearsSoldier Field is one of the great venues in the NFL betting action and tonight it will play host to one of the best matchups of the young 2010 NFL season.

The perfect Chicago Bear (2-0) will play host to the perfect Green Bay Packers (2-0) and only one team can walk to the locker room with the perfect record intact.

Kickoff for this Monday matchup is set for 8:40 Eastern Time and sbg global opened with the Packers as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 46.

The Packers are the better team and it only makes sense that the team is favored. This team has been arguably the best team in football through two weeks of the season. And, granted it’s all but impossible to pick the best team in the league with such a limited sample size but there is no doubt that this has been the most balanced team in the NFL betting odds action up to this point.

The Pack ranks 1st in the NFL in total offense (30.5 ppg, 32.5 ypg) and fourth in total defense (13.5 ppg, 253 yards per game). No other team can boast such high rankings in both categories.

But in the NFL all that matters is wins and losses and on that account both teams are even. And all things being equaled you have to like the fact that Chicago will be playing at the hallowed Soldier Field with 80,000+ crazy fans cheering the team on.

Chicago may not rank as high as the Packers in the stats but this team isn’t far behind. On offense the Bears are averaging 23.0 points per game and have the best QB in the league (Jay Cutler, 121.2 passer rating). On defense the Bears are giving up just 17.0 per game and 289 yards per game (just 28 yards per game on the ground!).

The battle of tape is more or less a draw and you have to like the home team in that type of football equation. Granted the Green Bay offense is a high flying affair with weapons like Aaron Rogers, Kelly Jennings, Donald Driver, Jermichael Finley, etc. But the Pack is also without its starting RB and back up Brandon Jackson will get smothered by an excellent Chicago run defense. Green Bay will be able to move the ball in the air but Rogers has shown a penchant for INTs this season (2 INTs in two games) and if he’s forced to throw the ball could end up in trouble.

Pick the Bears in this sports betting matchup.
