NFL Betting Lines: Cowboys vs Redskins Week 1 Predictions

September 12th, 2010 by

cowboys vs redskinsThe Washington Redskins versus the Dallas Cowboys is one of the greatest rivalries in the NFL betting odds competition. And even though it hardly needs any added storylines to make this battle interesting it got one anyway.

In the offseason, the long QB-starved Redskins traded for Pro Bowl QB Donovan McNabb and on September 12th he’ll make his debut in the maroon and yellow uniform when the two teams open up the 2010 season at FedEx Field in Washington. Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:25 Eastern Time and sbg global sportsbook opened with the Cowboys as a 3.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 40.

It’s got to be irritating to the new-look Skins that the hated Cowboys are favored in their own stadium. Washington desperately needed a makeover after last season’s Jim Zorn disaster and it got one. Not only did the team add McNabb, but it also brought in two-time Super Bowl winning head coach, Mike Shannahan.

McNabb is a perfect fit for Shannahan’s West Coast style offense and with several receiving weapons like WR Santana Moss (70 receptions, 3 TDs) and TE Chris Cooley (29 receptions and 2 TDs in 7 games in ‘09) this team should be much improved on offense from its woeful performance in the 2009 NFL gambling action.

On defense this unit should also be improved so long as DT Albert Haynesworth gets his head screwed on right and performs like game changer the franchise agreed to pay him $100 million to be.

Nonetheless the Cowboys are favored for a reason. Despite finding ever new and creative ways to choke in the postseason this is still one of the most talented teams in the league and a better team than the Redskins.

Over the past few season QB Tony Romo (4,483 yards and 26 TDs in ’09) has been one of the best QBs in the league. He’s got a good set of receivers led by Miles Austin (1,348 yards and 11 TDs as a part time starter last year) and #1 pick Dez Bryant.

The defense the #2 ranked unit in the NFL last season and has a tremendous pass rush which should give McNabb fits in this season opener. The only real question for the Cowboys is a banged up offensive line which will be at less than full strength.

Cowboys win a close one in this sports betting matchup.
