NFL Betting Lines: Vikings vs Jets Week 5 Odds Lines

October 11th, 2010 by

minnesota vikings vs new york jetsIt wasn’t all that long ago that the New York media had written the bombastic New York Jets off for dead in the NFL betting odds competition. They had just struggled to put 9 points on the board (no TDs) in a loss at home and had yet to win a game.

But that was the season opener and the New York media has a propensity to exaggerate. Since the opening day loss the Jets have won 3 straight and looked awfully balanced in the process. The defense is playing lights out again this year and the offense, led by second-year QB Mark Sanchez has been a pleasant surprise. Sanchez isn’t tearing up any fantasy leagues but he’s been efficient. His 105.4 QB rating is the 4th best in the league and his 8/0 TD/INT ratio is the best in the NFL.

The Jets have also gotten a surprising lift from aging RB LaDanian Tomlinson’s 85.3 yards per game is 6th best in the NFL.

But the Vikings have their own force at the RB position in Adrian Peterson who leads the NFL in rushing with 130.7 ypg. They also have a new WR in Randy Moss and just his presence alone will make this offense better. Moss gives the Vikings a deep threat that has been lacking since Sidney Rice went down with an injury.

Expect to see instant results from Moss and the offense in this NFL gambling matchup.

Kickoff for this Monday matchup is set for 8:40 Eastern Time and SBG Global opened with the Redskins as a 4.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 38.

In the battle of defenses, both units are among the best in the league but the Vikings happen to be the best. Overshadowed by the Steelers defense in the first month of the season the Vikings are statistically better giving up just 189.0 yards per game and 12.7 points per game. The pass rush is a terror and Sanchez will likely be running for his life most of the night.

The sports betting odds favor the Jets but with Moss in the lineup and definite sense of urgency this Vikings squad has the look of a team that can pull off the upset tonight.
