NFL Betting Lines Vikings – Saints Football Odds

September 9th, 2010 by

New orleans saints The Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints will finally get a chance to defend its title as they open the season on September 9th as one of the favorites in the NFL gambling lines get back to the title game. In the season opener on Thursday the team will face one of the other Super Bowl favorites and NFL rival, the Minnesota Vikings.

Anyway you look at it this is a riveting matchup. These are two of the best teams in the NFL. They have two of the best QBs in the league (Drew Brees and Brett Favre), the two leading offenses from a year ago (Saints 31.9 ppg; Vikings 29.4 ppg) and enough Pro Bowlers between the two teams to play a scrimmage with.

Quite simply, it would hard to imagine a better matchup to kickoff the new NFL betting odds season.

Kickoff for this Thursday sports betting matchup is set for 8:35 Eastern Time and sbg opened with the Saints as a 5-point favorite with an over/under total at 48.

The Saints are favored with good reason considering that Brett Favre is bound to be rusty, he’ll be missing his favorite target (Sidney Rice; 1,312 yards, 8 TDs in ’09) and there are some questions about the Vikings O-line. The Vikings will be a very good team by mid-season once the offense begins to gel and Rice will likely be back in the lineup. But the team that will take the field on Thursday night is likely to be a far cry from playing at 100% of its potential.

The key to a Vikings win will be a big running day by workhorse RB Adrian Peterson which will not only put points on the board but will eat up the clock and keep the ball out of Drew Brees’ hands. And of course the Vikings D must be able to get pressure on Brees when he does have the ball.

Keys to a Saints victory are pretty simple: outscore the Vikings. This is a team that is built around its highly proficient offense and the Saints will need to score early and often and keep the pressure on this Vikings team. If they can get an early lead and force the Vikings to play from behind and take more risk it should play right into the hands of its ball hawking defense which was among the best in the league at forcing TO last year (38).

Saints will win this sports betting matchup.
