Panthers at Giants preview – NFL Lines

The Giants (8-6) just played their best game of the year. On Monday Night of week 15 of the 2009 NFL schedule they utterly humiliated the Washington Redskins and almost prematurely ended lame duck coach Jim Zorn’s awful career with the franchise. Zorn is all but certain to finish the betting odds season but less certain is whether or not the Giants can keep up this high level of play.

The Skins are admittedly a dysfunctional team but the Giants week 16 NFL betting lines opponent, the Carolina Panthers (6-8) is teaming fresh off a major upset over the Vikings and eager to add another to its resume.

Carolina has been as inconsistent a team as there is in the football betting lines. It can knock off a team like the 11-2 Vikings but kicked around by a team like the 2-12 Buccaneers. The Panthers biggest problem is the passing game which is seventh worst in the NFL (195 ypg) and with an awful TD/INT ratio of 12-20 QB Jake Delhomme career is more or less over.

Enter unheralded back QB Matt Moore. Last week against one of the best defenses in the league he had a career game and made the passing game look almost efficient. The Giants run defense is strong but their pass coverage unit has been decimated with injuries and is ripe for the beating.

The Panthers have a small window for sports betting victory but it would require Moore to play the game of his life and effectively balancing the team’s stellar running attack led by Jonathon Stewart with the passing attack. Still, New York is playing at home, desperately looking to clinch a playoff berth and should be able to win this one.
