Sports Betting Lines: Ravens vs Steelers Week 4 Predictions

October 3rd, 2010 by

steelers vs ravensThere are only three 3-0 teams in the NFL right now, which in itself is a bit of a surprise, but the biggest sports betting surprise of the early NFL season is the teams themselves. Heading into the 2010 NFL season without starting QB Ben Roethlisberger there many pundits that thought the Steelers would be 0-4 when he finally came off his suspension.

But it’s been quite the opposite as the team has won its first three games and the defense has been playing out of its mind. In fact, Big Ben’s suspension for harassing young women could actually prove a blessing in disguise. The team’s running game is now as good as it’s been since the days of Franco Harris, the O-line has gelled and the defense –perhaps out of necessity- is playing like the Steel Curtain of the ‘70’s.

Through three games the Steelers have been the best team in the NFL gambling matchups. But in Week 4 they’ll face their toughest test of the season when their hated AFC North rival, the Baltimore Ravens, comes to the Heinz Field.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and sbgglobal opened with the Steelers as a 1-point favorite with an over/under total at 34.5.

Expect to see a battle of defenses and strap on your seat belts as this is bound to be a highlight reel hit parade. Both of these team’s defenses are in top form and among the best in the NFL right now.

The Ravens will come in an underdog but have a real shot at winning this game. If they can stop the Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall and its potent run game (150 yards per game), which is a big if considering Baltimore is uncharacteristically giving up 127.7 rushing yards per game, they should be able shut down Pitt’s offense.

Joe Flacco will also have be mistake free against a defense that already has 5 INTs and is averaging over 3 sacks per game or it will result in Steelers points. There will be even more pressure on Flacco as starting RB Ray Rice is injured and questionable for Sunday.

The Ravens are capable of beating the Charlie Batch led Steelers but playing in Pittsburgh where the team has lost 9 of its last 10 games, you have to like the Steelers chances in this sports betting matchup.
