Sunday Night Football Betting: Bears vs Giants Odds

October 3rd, 2010 by

chicago bears vs new york giantsThe only thing more surprising than the fact that just 3 teams remain undefeated so early in the NFL betting odds action is which teams still have a clean slate.

Heading into the 2010 NFL season most people expected the Chiefs to be AFC West doormats once again, the Steelers to struggle to get a win without Big Ben and the Bears to be in third place in the NFC North behind the Packers and Vikings.

But here we are with three unheralded team’s still perfect heading into Week 4 of the NFL calendar and the Bears with a very good chance of running their record to 4-0.

Da’ Bears head to the Big Apple to take on a struggling Giants (1-2) that hasn’t been able to stop anyone from scoring this season and will struggle mightily against red hot Chicago squad.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:25 Eastern Time and sbg global.com opened with the Giants as a 3.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

It’s mildly surprising that the Giants are favored in this matchup but there are a couple of things that factor into this. First, the Giants are playing at home. And second, this team is not as bad as its record or NFL gambling defensive stats would indicate.

Any team that faces Peyton Manning and his high flying offense is going to give up huge numbers that bloat the D-stats. But that doesn’t explain this unit’s ineptness in its entirety as the team also gave up 18 points to a terrible, really terrible, Panthers team and then got torched for 29 points against a one-dimensional Titans’ offense.

If this team’s pass defense can’t handle the likes of Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen it’s in for an old fashioned beating on Sunday night.

The offense has also gotten progressively worse over its first three games. The Giants came out the blocks scoring 31 points in its only win against the Panthers and has subsequently scored 14 and 10 points in its past two losses.

The bad news for the Giants is that the Bears D might be the best they’ve faced this season, even better than the Titans.

Hard to see how the Giants are going to win this sports betting matchup unless Manning has a big day.
