Who’ dat in the Playoffs? … The Saints

The win on Sunday was supposed to be all but a formality in what is shaping up to be the greatest season in the history of the New Orleans Saints. And in the end the team did get the win and sewed up the NFC South, thereby locking down a spot in the post season, but it was hardly a formality.

The Saints nation received quite a scare in week 13 in the nation’s capitol when it took overtime, a missed Skins’ field goal and a litany of errors by the home team to finally secure the team’s 12th win in the NFL betting lines this year. To go 12-0 for the season is remarkable for just about any NFL team but for a long suffering franchise like New Orleans it’s a godsend.

Not even the most diehard Saints fans could have imagined this dream season against the NFL lines competition. Sure, this team was a playoff contender on paper heading into the season but no one could have imagined that this team would be perfect through 13 weeks of NFL betting odds action. QB Drew Brees is the face of this franchise and one of the best players in the league.

But in a surprise to everyone it’s actually been the defense and the running game that have propelled this team to the head of the NFL class. With that come from behind win on the road in freezing Washington the Saints proved once again that they are the best team in the NFL. With Minnesota losing the Saints are even better poised to lock up home field advantage through the playoffs and finally get the Super Bowl.
