The AFC South has surprisingly turned out to be the most competitive division in the NFL gambling action this season. Never before has this team had more than one or two legitimate playoff contenders but this season all four teams have shot at the post season. It remains the only division in the league that doesn’t have a team with a losing record.

The Houston Texans started off with the early lead in this division but have since fizzled a bit and now sport a 4-4 record. Likewise with the 4-4 Jacksonville Jags which has been treading water for most of the season, but QB David Garrard quietly putting together a fine season this team is poised to make a run.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Texans/Jags PK with an over/under total at 50.

This game is simply too close to call and as with most division rivalries in sports betting you can expect a tight game.

Both of these teams have struggled on defense and have been outscored by opponent by a considerable margin this year (Jags: 165-226; Texans 193-26). In fact, fans should not tune into this matchup expecting big stops as these two teams rank 29th and 30th in the league in defense.

The Jags are giving up 28.3 ppg and 386.3 ypg. The Texans are giving up 28.3 ppg and 399.5 ypg. On any given Sunday these could be the worst defenses in the league.

But these teams are more adept on the offensive side of the ball and we should see a high scoring game as the over/under indicates.

Defensively these teams are a wash and this game should boil down to a battle of offenses. This is a battle that the Texans win easily. Houston is averaging 24.1 ppg and have changed from high flying passing team to the 6th best rushing team in the NFL (136.5 ypg) behind the breakout season of the NFL’s leading rusher, RB Arian Foster.

The Jags simply don’t have the rush defense to slow down the A-Train and this game will be won in the trenches for the Texans who should win this NFL betting odds contest on the road.

There doesn’t seem to be any great teams in the 2010 NFL betting odds right now but there is an inordinate amount of really good teams, at least a half a dozen with a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl.

The Carolina Panthers (1-7) are not one of them. In fact, despite having a better record than the still winless Buffalo Bills (0-8) is easily the worst team in football. The team has a pretty bad defense that’s giving up 23.0 ppg (22nd in the league) and an offense that is downright embarrassing (11.0 ppg).

When this travels to Tampa Bay in the Week 10 sports betting action to take on the NFC South rival Buccaneers (5-3) it will be beaten badly.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Bucs as a 6-point favorite with an over/under total at 36.5.

The Bucs should win this game easily and it’s not because this team is so talented (its winning record is more a product of an easy NFL schedule than any outstanding play) but because the Panthers are so bad.

There is not a team in the league right now that would not be favored against Carolina and this may be the surest bet of the weekend.

Carolina has been outscored by a margin of 184 to 88 this season (23-11 per game average) and that trend is not likely to change this weekend. The team’s one real talent on offense, RB DeAngelo Williams, is likely to miss another game and the Bucs defense will not even have to pretend defend Carolina’s incompetent passing game (175.6 yards per game, 6 TDs and 14 INTs). The team’s two headed monster behind center rookie Jimmie Clausen and career backup Matt Moore have combined for a 51.5 completion percentage and an embarrassing combined passer rating of just over 50.

The Bucs defense should easily keep this pathetic unit in check and score a few TDs for its own account.

Second-year QB Josh Freeman has shown tremendous improvement this season and sports an 85.8 passer rating with 10 TDs, only 5 INTs and a couple of come from behind wins.

Not likely he’ll have to bring his team back from a deficit on Sunday and the Bucs should steamroll the Panthers in this NFL gambling matchup.

Mathematically the 1-6 Dallas Cowboys could still finish with a 10-6 record, win the bruising NFC East, and get a first round bye in the NFL gambling playoff action. But with just a single victory through the first 2 months of the season there’s a better chance of George W Bush inviting Kanye West to his house for Thanksgiving.

And Lambeau Field is not a very profitable place to go looking for your second win of the season if you’re the struggling Cowboys. Green Bay is freezing this time of year, especially for a night game, and the Packers are 3-1 at home this year.

Kickoff for this Sunday night matchup is set for 8:30 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Packers as a 8-point favorite with an over/under total at 45.5.

The truth is, there really isn’t any good place for this very bad Dallas team to go looking for a win outside of Carolina.

The Cowboys talent is loaded with talent but it’s been hit with key injures (QB Tony Romo) and for whatever reason this team is just not performing. It’s also suffered from plenty of bad luck (a few last second losses resulting from stupid penalties) and the stats paint a different picture than the record.

But no one ever won a Super Bowl based on statistics and the only stats that matters in the NFL betting odds competition is wins and losses. And that is not a favorable stat for the ’10 Cowboys.

The only chance Dallas has of winning this game is establishing the run game with RB Felix Jones (just 286 yards in 7 games) and hoping that backup QB turned starter, John Kitna, somehow magically transforms into Joe Montana. He threw 4 INTs last week and looked rusty.

The Packers offense is averaging just 22.0 ppg (same as the Cowboys) but their defense has been solid (4th in the NFL, 17.0 ppg) and at home QB Aaron Rogers should have a decent game the Packers ball hawking secondary (12 INTs) should make life miserable for Kitna and ensure a Green Bay sports betting win.

If you’re allergic to offense than do not watch this Week 8 Monday Night Football betting odds matchup. You’re bound to have outbreak of hives and a terrible rash and whatever other nasty side effects an abundance of scoring might produce in people with the aforementioned affliction.

When the Indianapolis Colts (4-2) host the Houston Texans (4-2) there will be an explosion of offense and when the clock finally runs out the winner of this matchup will be all alone at the top of the AFC South division standings and the loser will be 1.0 game back in the standings.

Kickoff for this Monday matchup is set for 8:40 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Colts as a 5.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 51.

As anyone whose familiar with NFL gambling action can tell you it’s not often that you see an over/under at over 50 points. But that’s a reflection of these two high powered offenses. The last time these two teams met in Week 1 of the 2010 NFL season the Texans came out on top in a 34-24 (58 point) shoot out.

That was one of the strangest meetings between these two teams in quite some time for a couple of reasons: 1) the Texans won; 2) the Texans won by running the ball.

Whenever these two teams meet up you expect Colts QB Peyton Manning and Texans QB Matt Schaub to lead a pass heavy aerial attack. But in Week 1 Texans RB Arian Foster went nuts and logged one of the best rushing days in NFL history recording 239 yards and 3 TDs on the ground.

Foster enters this week’s game as the NFL’s third leading rusher with 105.8 yards per game to go with 6 TDs in 6 games.

You can be sure that the Texans are going to ride him again in attempt to control the time of possession and keep the ball out of Manning’s hands. That has proven to be just about the only way to stop the Colts’ offense this season as the receiving corps keeps dropping like flies. Yet, no matter whom the team plugs in to the system the Colts continue to score.

And most likely the Colts will continue to score enough to get the sports betting win at home tonight as well.

In something of a rarity this week’s Monday Night NFL betting odds matchup will feature two teams that are both coming off a Bye week. There’s little doubt that the Indianapolis Colts will benefit the most from this week off as this team has been fighting injuries all season long and would otherwise have to dress coaching staff to fill out the roster.

Indy (4-2) has managed to get off to a strong start despite one of the longest injury lists in the league. Heading into the November 1st Monday Night Meeting with the Houston Texans (4-2) the Colts have a dozen players listed on the injury report. Several key players like WR Austin Collie and S Bob Sanders are out. Others like Joseph Addai is doubtful and stars WR Reggie Wayne, LB Garry Brackett, WR Pierre Garcon and RB Donald Brown are questionable.

Even if the players in that last group suit up they’re not likely to be 100%.

For most teams an injury list like that would mean an end to the season. But most teams don’t have Peyton Manning behind center. Even without his regular crew of receivers he has still managed to keep this team on the winning track in the NFL gambling action and put up huge stats. Through 6 games he’s thrown for 1916 yards (319.3 ypg), 13 TDs and just 2 INTs. His passer rating of 103.4 is tops in the league and the offense is averaging 27.2 ypg (3rd best in the NFL).

Kickoff for this Monday matchup is set for 8:40 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Colts as a 5.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 51.

The only way that the Colts can lose is if Manning doesn’t have the ball in his hands. And the Houston Texans know this very well.

When these two teams met up in Week 1 the Texans gave the Colts’ suspect run defense a steady dose of RB Arian Foster and the result was a 34-24 wins over their hated AFC South rival. Foster finished the day with the greatest rushing performance in Texans’ history (239 yards 3 TDs) and you can be sure we’ll see plenty of Foster on Monday Night.

The Colts run defense is awful (137.2 yards per game and there’s very little reason not to think that Foster will go nuts again, especially in the second half.

Still, it’s tough to bet against Manning and the safe sports betting play is on the home team.

With two of the best cover cornerbacks in the NFL gambling action it sound like a crazy idea to try and test the New York Jets’ pass defense. After all, New York (5-1) has the 4th ranked defense in the league, the best record in the NFL and it has very few weaknesses.

But the one weakness this team does have is giving up passing TDs. Granted throughout the first 6 games of the season the team was playing without a banged up Darelle Revis who had a bad hammy but if the Green Bay Packers are going to win this game, this passing strategy is the only chance this team has.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Jets as a 5-point favorite with an over/under total at 42.

At this moment in time the Jets look to be the superior team in the sports betting odds in almost every single way. The Packers will have to dress the equipment boy if they suffer any injuries on the plane ride over and key players are missing on both sides of the ball.

Jets on the other hand are coming off a Bye Week and will be in the best shape they’ve been in all season with Revis now 100% healthy and deep threat on offense, WR Santonio Holmes, back in the lineup after a 4-game suspension and full two weeks of practice with the team under his belt.

Most likely Revis and Antonito Cromartie are going to do a good job shutting down QB Aaron Rogers primary targets: Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. However, if Rogers has time to get to his 3rd and 4th options he could have a big day and the Jets could give up a lot of passing TDS.

Green Bay’s running is non-existent with an ineffective Brandon Jackson getting the bulk of the carries. That being said the Packers will come out throwing and if they can somehow buy enough time for Rogers to get the ball downfield the Jets will have problems. And that’s not such a stretch considering that the Jets only have 13.0 sacks this season.

Still, the best the Packers can hope for in this one is to beat the 5-point NFL betting odds spread.

These two teams both know what it’s like to be at pinnacle of the NFL gambling universe after winning the Super Bowl as these are the last two teams to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Both teams also know what its’ like to tumble from the top and get off to a rotten start the following season.

The past two times the Steelers won the Super Bowl the hangover lasted too long and the team missed the playoffs both years and failed to reach .500 in one year. The Saints have followed suit as they’ve struggled to keep above .500 with a 4-3 record and some very ugly losses on their 2010 résumé.

After missing the playoffs last year the Steelers are back with a vengeance. Even without Big Ben in the lineup while he served a month long suspension this team has managed to carve out a 5-1 record and could be the best team in the league.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:25 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Saints as a 1-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

How anyone would take the Saints over the Steelers in this sports betting matchup is something of a mystery to anyone that has actually seen these two teams play. Granted the Steelers could have easily lost week, but they could also easily have won that game by double digits in Miami.

The Saints on the other hand are coming off a historically bad performance (17-30 loss) against the lowly Cleveland Browns, a team that the Steelers beat down 28-10 just a week before. If Drew Brees threw 4 INTs against one of the worst defenses in football what’s he going to do against the best?

Actually Brees is likely to bounce had from that putrid performance and have some big numbers against the Steelers.

However, the Steelers defense has been making big plays all year and in what should be a fairly close game in the Super Dome, either Big Ben or the Steelers D will come up with a big play late in the game to put it away.

Pick the Steelers to get the outright win over the Saints at home in this NFL betting odds matchup.

It has not been a good year in the NFL gambling action for Buffalo Bills fans. Actually it’s been a pretty rotten decade and a half for Bills fans. Not since the Jim Kelly days when the Bills ripped off 4 straight Super Bowls (all losses of course) has there been much to celebrate during the long Buffalo winters.

This year things are off to an especially bad start as the team is 0-6 through and the only team left in the league through Week 7 without a single measly win. But that could change this weekend as the team travels to heartland take on the 4-2 Kansas City Chiefs.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Chiefs as a 7.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 45.5.

While this game might be a bit different is the Bills were playing at home it’s just difficult to see the Buffalo getting the better of good defensive club like the Chiefs at home –although stranger things have happened.

Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been outstanding since taking over the starter’s role and last week’s 374 yards, 4 TD performances was his best game yet as a pro. However the Bills running game and lack of talent in the receiving corps keep this team from getting that elusive first win.

KC’s offense has been gathering steam of late averaging 25.0 points per game (9th bets in the NFL betting odds action). It’s led by a strong running game with Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones creating a two-headed monster in the backfield.

But it’s the Chiefs defense that has been the star of the show. KC is the 7th ranked defense in the league giving up just 18.7 points per game and if it wasn’t for freakish meltdown a few weeks back vs. the Texans this would be a top 3 defense. It’s been superb against the run allowing just 89.7 rushing yards per game and is well coached.

Fitzpatrick should be able to throw the ball a bit against the Chiefs as they’re giving up 243.8 passing yards per game and have just 5 INTs on the year.

But the Chiefs offense is so good at chewing up the clock he’ll be playing from behind for most of the day and probably trying to force things, which leads to TOs.

Take the hometown Chiefs in this sports betting contest.

The definition of insanity by some popular accounts is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result; there could be no more apt description for picking the San Diego Chargers (2-5) once again to win a game at home against a much better NFL betting odds opponent.

But when the Tennessee Titans (5-2) visit San Diego this weekend betting gurus are suggesting you bet on the home team to beat a clearly better Titans squad just as they did last week versus an obviously better New England (5-1) squad.

And you should do it.

The Titans are a good team, of that there’s little doubt. At 5-2 this team has a great shot at the post season even in the ultra-competitive AFC South. It’s also got the 3rd ranked defense in the NFL (16.7 points per game). And in case you’ve been living in collapsed mine shaft somewhere it also has RB Chris Johnson (94.6 ypg, 7 TDs), a fantasy football dream and run defenses nightmare.

The Titans are also coming off 3 straight wins over decent opponents (Dallas, Jax and Philly) and are perfect 3-0 in NFL gambling matchups on the road this season.

Doesn’t matter.

The Chargers will win this game. Despite the Titans overwhelming advantages on paper, the Chargers actually match up well against the Titans. The Titans D has been impressive as a hole but its pass defense ranks 23rd in the league and is giving up 230.4 yards per game. It’s also given up 7 TDs. And even though it’s got 12 picks on the year, against a good QB like Phillip Rivers that doesn’t mean all that much.

Speaking of Rivers, he’s quietly off to one of the best starts in NFL history. He’s averaging 334.9 ypg and has 13 TDs and just 6 INTs on the season. He’s also got a talented group of receivers –when healthy- and Antonio Gates has been the best Red Zone weapon in the NFL this season. Gates has 8 TDs in 7 seven games and should have 9 if wasn’t for a mishandled pass last week in the home loss to the Pats.

On defense the Chargers also have the tools to hand Tennessee a loss. The Bolts run D has been superb this year giving up just 85.7 yards per game (4th best in the NFL) and just 4 rushing TDs.

Bolts finally get another sports betting win at home.

There are a lot stats that you can look at when trying to measure the how good this year’s 5-1 Pittsburgh Steelers has been so far in the 2010 NFL gambling action.

There are a lot stats that you can look at when trying to measure the how good this year’s 5-1 Pittsburgh Steelers has been so far in the 2010 NFL gambling action. You can obviously look at their defensive stats: #1 overall defense (13.7 points per game), #1 rush defense by a huge margin (63.7 yards per game).

Or you could point to the fact that the Steelers, despite a pretty tough schedule still managed to win 3 of 4 games early in the season without All Pro QB Ben Roethlisberger who was suspended for putrid behavior.

But the one stat that is often overlooked and is the true measure of a good NFL team is its road record. And so far this season the Steelers are a perfect 3-0 when playing outside the windy, Steel City Beer infused, confines of Heinz Field.

This weekend the team will try to run its record to a perfect 4-0 in the Super Dome against the team that took the Super Bowl trophy from it: the 4-2 New Orleans Saints.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:25 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Saints as a 1-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

No doubt both teams will be looking to prove something as the two most current holders of the Lombardi trophy and the fact that this is the Sunday Night Game of the Week broadcast to a live national audience ought to crank the action up a notch as well.

On paper this is a matchup of one of the best QBs in the NFL, Drew Brees (2,029 yards, 289.9 ypg, 14 TDs, 10 INTs) against the best defense in the league, the aforementioned Steelers.

That’s the key storyline here and the one that the sports media and most of the sports betting fans will be focused on.

But that negates a very big piece of the puzzle, namely Big Ben.

The Steelers defense gets all the headlines and all the credit but this Steelers offense, with Big Ben at the helm is one of the most balanced and most effective units in the league.

Brees and the Steelers’ D will battle all night but it’s likely Roethlisberger and his troops will win this NFL betting odds war with a strong running game and a deep strike passing game.
