Sunday Night Football Odds: Colts vs Redskins Free Picks

October 17th, 2010 by

colts vs redskinsThe Washington Redskins (3-2) will have a national audience all to themselves for the second time this NFL betting odds season when they’re featured at home for the second time this year in the Sunday Night Game of The Week. The first time the Skins played in the Sunday night game it wasn’t pretty but it ended in a favorable 13-7 win over the division rival Cowboys.

The Skins would be ecstatic the same favorable –but highly unlikely- result this week. Washington is capable of winning this game, but holding this week’s opponent to just 7 points is about as likely as Sarah Palin joining MENSA.

The Skins opponent, the Indianapolis Colts (or rather Peyton Manning), posses the most efficient offense and most dangerous weapon in the league in Manning. In order to beat this team you have to score a heap of points and either knock Manning out of the game or simply keep the ball out of his hands by dominating the time of possession.

That doesn’t mean that you have to keep the Colts from scoring, but you have to at least be able to keep pace on the scoreboard and the Skins are team that so far in the 2010 NFL sports betting action look ill-equipped to do either.

And that’s why the smart money is on Indy.

It’s not that Indy is such a superior team, which looking at their identical 3-2 records is not the case; it’s simply that it’s a very bad matchup for the Skins personnel-wise.

Manning is going to get his stats and the Colts are going to get their points. That’s one of the universal truths in this league. Let’s face it, in his ‘worst’ performance of the year he threw for ‘only’ 244 yards and was held to 0 TD passes for the 1st time since Pop Warner. The Colts still won by double digits but all of a sudden the Chiefs are a defensive team of the ages simply because they held Manning and the offense to 19 points.

Unfortunately the Skins have two major disadvantages working against them. One: their defense isn’t as good as the Chiefs even though this group is improving and players in the secondary like S LaRon Landry is quickly becoming one of the best in the game. Two: they don’t have the running game to eat up the clock and limit Manning’s possessions on offense.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:35 Eastern Time and sbg opened with the Colts as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

This will probably be a close game but expect Manning to deliver in crunch time and hand the Skins a tough NFL gambling loss at home.
