Preseason Free Picks Jaguars @ Eagles Sports Betting Odds

August 13th, 2010 by

philadelphia eagles NFL betting questions abound for 2010 as far as the sports betting prospects of both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles. Handicappers simply do not know what to make of either team as of yet, but those questions will finally begin to be addressed with their August 13 preseason opener.

Philadelphia opened as a 2.5-point favorite at Sportsbook with an over/under of 33.5.

The Jacksonville Jaguars may have finished 7-9 straight up and a horrible 5-11 against the spread last year but it should also be remembered that they entered December with a playoff position in hand only to run out of gas and out of the money with 4 consecutive losses to finish the campaign.

The Jaguars went with a roster overhaul and youth movement last year that went better than expected and it may pay dividends this year with that full year of experience and on the job training behind them.

One of the preseason factors to consider with Jacksonville will be the Dirk Koetter factor. Koetter has been given absolute authority as offensive coordinator and is expected to open up the passing game that was held in check for most of last year. The Jags will use preseason games to try and school starting quarterback David Gerrard on the more open system.

NFL Betting Lines reports show that Gerrard could face competition for his job if his work habits and job performance don’t improve. Backup quarterbacks Luke McCown and Trevor Harris will see plenty of exhibition play. While Gerrard has been publicly called out by owner Wayne Weaver, head coach Jack Del Rio, handicappers and fans, he may keep the job by default as the backups are not ready for starting roles as of yet.

Special team’s coordinator Russ Purnell will use the preseason to try and improve the punting and return game as the Jags think that Mike Thomas could be a breakaway threat.

Meanwhile quarterback is also a hot topic of conversation with the Philadelphia Eagles as long time star Donovan McNabb was traded to NFC East division rival Washington with Kevin Kolb taking over the reins.

Controversial backup quarterback Michael Vick has been cleared for action by the NFL despite more off the field woes that included a shooting at his birthday party and law suits having to do with potential bankruptcy fraud. Vick should see plenty of NFL Betting preseason action.

“I’ve realized from the moment that I stepped onto the field, that it was a blessing to be here, with this team, with the guys, with my teammates and my coaches,” said Vick.
